Friday Finds 5.27.11

Good Morning, and Happy Friday to everyone!!! This week has been busy working on some pieces for a client. We hope she likes what we've done! Today's find is a fabulous website that I happened upon a few weeks ago, called Houzz.Com! I don't know about you, but I always see great ideas in magazines or on the internet and think, ooh - I love that! I'd like to try that sometime! And then, I forget about it later! Houzz.Com lets you create a free idea book and then browse literally thousands of pictures of houses and even specific rooms. You can save any pictures to your idea book that you like, and even include notes on specific ideas of the room that catch your eye. Then, go back and browse through your book at any time to find your inspiration!

Hope you have fun with this, and we hope everyone has a fun, safe Memorial Weekend! We'll be back in a couple days with some new pictures of our latest projects.

Black end table

Don't you all just love before and after pictures?

Friday Finds

Do you ever get your hands on a magazine that just speaks to you? One where you have just about every page marked, highlighted, filled with sticky notes and memorized??? I have found that magazine for me. I can't get enough of "Flea Market style". Their second issue is out, and I am in love! I love how they have taken old vintage finds and turned them into something amazing. I love that they have a style of combining the old and the new, more modern looks with antiques. I love everything about this magazine.

I found my copy at Home Depot, but they also sell them at Lowes, Walmart, Target, Wallgreens, CVS, and they are selling fast. Go get yours today!

Turquoise table

Remember this nightstand for our contest? Well it is all done and it is so beautiful. It is amazing what a little sanding, primer, paint new knobs and sealer can do for an old ugly table.

Moss green wood end table

One of my favorite pieces I have done to date! I love the way the top of the wood turned out. This little table was in bad need of some sanding and love. I decided after sanding the top that the wood grain was really pretty and all it needed was some stain and sealer. I love the contrast between the moss green body and the wood top.

Friday Finds

When you get an old piece of furniture, you never know what you might find inside! Once, I found an old checkbook! Check out all the stuff I found in this desk, stuck behind one of the drawers: old pictures, a prayer journal, a little pillow, a drawing, and a couple other papers. Score!!! (Just kidding. I am going to try to find the house and return these things to their owner!)

For those of you who were hoping for something a little more helpful for this week's Friday find, check this out! Rustoleum has a new product for painting cabinets and counter-tops! No sanding required! The kit comes in so many different colors, with optional glaze. At around $80 per kit, it is a MUCH cheaper way to transform a kitchen than buying new cabinets, and easier than having to strip and sand!

I was so excited to find this product because I HATE my cabinets! I have been wanting to paint them white for a long time! I would try this out right away, except for the fact that we also want new countertops and a different tile backsplash, and we need to do it all at the same time. I might try it in my bathroom, though, and when I do, I'll be sure to post some pictures and let you know how it works. Rustoleum also has some great before and after pictures on their website.

Have a great weekend! - Michalann

Trying Something New: Vintage Metallic Desk

Confession: I've been in love with mirrored and metallic furniture ever since I saw them on Tori and Dean's "Home Sweet Hollywood" show a couple years ago! Let me tell you, though, they are pricey! This one, from Horchow, (at $2110,) and this one (at $1849) were inspirations for my old antique desk.

Here is a before picture:

And, here is the desk, after:

To get this look, I used a metallic silver paint, then toned it down with an antiquing glaze. I finished it with a high-gloss sealer to give it a nice shine. Oh, and I didn't get a picture of this, but the drawers are a nice crisp white on the inside! What do you think?

Here it is again:

Vintage Metallic Desk/Vanity measures: 48" wide, 19.75" deep, 30" tall.
$160

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Friday Find

Before

After

It's Friday and time for our very first ever Friday Find. I am really excited to share this find and maybe you can use it as a tip as well.

Let me first start off by saying I love spray paint. I know that through out this blog you are going to hear that often, on how much spray paint can save on your decorating budget. I was at a thrift store the other day, and this old lamp base caught my eye. I loved the shape of it and really liked the overall appearance of this lamp. It was the perfect price ($1.00 )(such a steal) and the perfect height and shape, just about perfect except for one thing - it was an ugly ,brassy gold. Yuck! So I took my new found treasure to it's new home, removed the wiring from the inside, gave it a good spray of primer, then finished it off with a coat of white high gloss paint. It's perfect now, and I love it!

Ghost Chair please...

Lately I have become obsessed with these little beauty's. I want one, maybe two or even three. My only questions for those who might have one (so jealous)are... Do they show every little finger print? Are they sturdy enough that if a certain three year old decides to use it on her fort as a "see through door" is it going to withstand abuse? And last question, does anyone have one they would like to sell me cheap? (Worth a shot).
